Saroeun is a 62-year-old farmer who lives with her older brother on their rice farm. She enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and visiting the pagoda.
Five years ago, Saroeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Saroeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours with her sister in law seeking treatment. On June 17th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery in her left eye. After recovery, Saroeun will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Saroeun is hopeful, “I hope I can see well again after surgery so I can recognize my relatives faces again, help my brother take care of his children, and do all the housework easily.”

Saroeun underwent an eyesight-restoring cataract surgery.
Saroeun was fearful of having surgery and could not anticipate the impact it would have on her life. Just the day before surgery, she was nearly blind. The day after, she could see colors again. She is delighted with the results and looks forward to visiting her village pagoda by herself soon.
Sarouen shared, “I am so thankful I was able to receive this treatment. I hope that donors continue to help Cambodians who need help, it makes all the difference in the world to me that I can go back to helping my brother on the farm to support our family during these hard times.”
