Sarim is a 53-year-old vegetable seller who has one son and three daughters. In her free time, she likes to do housework and go to the farm.
When she was 17, Sarim started experiencing discharge in her left ear. She developed a cholesteatoma, an abnormal skin growth, in her left ear. It causes her ear discharge, hearing loss, and pain. Despite receiving treatment from an organization in Phnom Penh, her symptoms did not improve. Her hearing loss causes her difficulty communicating with others.
When Sarim learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On November 24, CSC surgeons performed a mastoidectomy procedure in her left ear to remove the cholesteatoma.
After recovery, her hearing will improve. Now, she needs help to fund this $842 procedure.
“I hope to have good hearing and to be able to communicate with other people easily,” she says.
