Twel Tar is a two-year-old girl from Burma. She lives with her parents across the border in Thailand, where her family moved in search of better job opportunities. Now her parents are both factory workers, working hard to earn to enough for their day to day living.
After Twel Tar was born, her mother noticed that she not only had an enlarged head, but that she also has a small, worrisome lump on her lower back. When she asked the doctor about the lump on Twel Tar’s back, the doctor told her that it might be caused by her spine protruding outwards. However, this could be repaired through surgery when she is older. Her doctors shared that she would need surgery for her hydrocephalus condition right away and with the support of the Watsi community, Twel Tar underwent surgery to place a shunt that would drain the excess fluid in her head. She still has some fluid build up in the brain, but she feels a lot better after her surgery. Now doctors want to do a CT scan to make sure her shunt is working well so she can fully recover.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $693 to cover the cost of Twel Tar’s CT scan and related medical care, scheduled for July 18th.
Thwel Tar’s mother said, “I want my daughter to get well and return home. I don’t want to see her in any pain anymore.”
