Rudy is a 17-month-old baby who has malnutrition. In the short term, malnutrition means Rudy has little energy to grow and that his immune system is weak. If Rudy does not receive treatment, he will also face malnutrition’s long-term consequences, such as increased risk of chronic diseases, low IQ, and a high likelihood of dropping out of school.
Rudy lives with his mother and two siblings in rural Guatemala. He is a curious toddler who loves to play with toy cars. His mother takes care of Rudy and his siblings.
While malnutrition can have devastating effects, it is also very treatable. Growth monitoring, micronutrients, and food supplementation will help Rudy recover. Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, is requesting $437 for Rudy’s malnutrition treatment, which will help him gain weight and grow taller and strengthen his immune system. Community health workers will teach Rudy’s mother about creating a nutrient-rich diet with limited resources.
Rudy’s mother is excited to gain tools to help her children. She pledges to do everything necessary to support Rudy’s growth. Treatment will give Rudy an opportunity to grow happy and healthy.
