Lemurwa is a 15 year old student living in Kiserian, Arusha in Tanzania, with his parents and three siblings. His father works as a farmer and cattle breeder, and his mother is a dedicated homemaker, responsible for caring for the children and assisting with the milking of the cows. Lemurwa was diagnosed with acquired right genu valgus, a condition caused by the accumulation of excess fluoride in the bones, which results from drinking contaminated water. His right leg exhibits a more severe deformity compared to his left leg, leading to persistent swelling whenever he walks. Lemurwa has been suffering from this progressive knee deformity since the age of three, and things have only worsened over time. His condition limits his mobility and causes significant pain, making it challenging for him to walk long distances and to perform essential tasks, such as helping his family in herding cattle. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery for Lemurwa. The procedure is scheduled to take place on May 26th at Arusha Lutheran Medical Center. Treatment should restore Lemurwa's mobility, allowing him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decreasing his risk of future complications. Lemurwa says: "I hope that after this treatment I will be able to help out at home and that my leg will not be a barrier to my day-to-day life."

Pheakdey is a 18-year-old factory worker in need of fracture surgery to heal his leg. He lives in Kratie province with his mother and father, both of whom work in construction, and his sister, who works in customer service. At home, he likes to listen to music with his friends. In April 2023, he was in a motorbike accident and fractured his right femur and wrist. Because his family could not afford to take him to a hospital, He went to a Khmer traditional medicine healer for treatment. After a month, his fracture has not healed, and he is in pain. Pheakday cannot walk without help, and he cannot work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 19th, Pheakdey will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $483. This procedure will heal the fracture and help him to walk again. Pheakdey shared: "After surgery, I hope my leg heals and I don't have any pain, so I can walk like I used to."

Pafura is a 16 year old student in the seventh grade and will be taking exams in November. He is the third born in a family of four children. They lost their father in 2010 and they have been under the care of their mother. Their family lives in a four-room mud house that their father left them. His mother works hard to pay their school fees. For one year, Pafura has had a right inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain and prevents him from taking part in his favorite sport, football. His mother believes it was a wise idea to bring him for a medical checkup since he is soon sitting for his exams. Surgery has been recommended but they cannot afford it. Fortunately, on September 14th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $170 to fund Pafura's hernia surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Pafura's mother says, “He will be able to proceed with his studies comfortably.”
