Sokchea is a 17-year-old farmer who has three brothers and two sisters. He likes to play volleyball, go fishing, and relax at home in his free time. In 2007, Sokchea fell from a coconut tree, causing an open fracture in his left femur. He went to a Khmer tradition healer for treatment, but the symptoms did not improve. It is difficult for Sokchea to walk with a stiff knee, and he is in pain.
Sokchea learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), from his sister’s friend. He traveled for four hours with his sister to reach CSC for treatment.
Surgeons at CSC will perform a quadricepsplasty procedure in Samnang’s left knee to allow him to walk easily again. CSC is requesting $425 to fund this treatment. Sokchea will undergo surgery on April 4.

Sokchea underwent knee surgery.
Sokchea’s treatment for his left leg went well. Following the procedure, he was given pain medication and doctors applied a backslab cast of 90 degrees for support. He has two weeks of physiotherapy at CSC before being discharged. His wounds have healed nicely and he does not experience any pain. Sokchea is able to bend his leg more easily than before.
Sokchea says, “I am happy with the results of the surgery. I feel good. Thanks to the staff for the help. I’m going to work to support my family again.”
