Pang is a 53-year-old mother from Cambodia. She has three daughters and two sons. She supports her family by selling food from her home, and in her free time, she enjoys going to the market and cooking.
In April 2012, Pang dislocated her left shoulder using a big hammer. Over the years, she has sought out various treatments, but none have proven successful in the long term. Hearing about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), from a relative, she traveled to their care center.
On March 6, Pang will undergo open reduction internal fixation surgery, a procedure in which her shoulder will be realigned in the correct position. CSC is asking for $411 to cover the cost of Pang’s surgery and accompanying hospital and physician’s fees.
After surgery, Pang is looking forward to being able to use her shoulder easily again!

Pang underwent shoulder surgery.
Pang’s treatment for her shoulder went well. Surgeons at CSC performed a Latarjet operation to remove and transfer a section of her shoulder and its attached muscles to another part of the shoulder to prevent further dislocation of the joint. Two screws were fixated for additional stability. Following the procedure, she had two weeks of physiotherapy at CSC before being discharged. Pang is now able to use her shoulder more easily than before, and she does not experience pain.
Pang’s daughter says, “I am really happy to see my mother use her shoulder better.”
