Sovannara is a 56-year-old farmer living in Cambodia with his wife, three daughters, and two sons. He likes to make fishing tools and plant vegetables in his free time.
On March 1, 2017, Sovannara was in a motorcycle accident and sustained a wound on his right foot. He has experienced swelling, redness, and pus drainage from the wound. He went to a health center close to his home for treatment, but his symptoms did not improve. Sovannara is in pain and has been unable to walk since the accident. Sovannara and his son traveled to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for further evaluation.
Surgeons at CSC have recommended an excision and flap surgery. This a reconstructive surgery where a type of tissue is lifted from a donor site and moved to a recipient site with an intact blood supply. They will perform a debridement procedure to remove the infected and damaged tissue from the wound and help Sovannara to walk easily again. The total cost of the procedure is $450 and covers medications, supplies, and two days of inpatient care. Sovannara’s surgery is scheduled for April 21.
