Nhouk is a 70-year-old retired rice farmer. He’s married and has one son, seven daughters, and 12 grandchildren. Because of his age and his vision, he no longer works in the rice field, and instead enjoys playing with his grandchildren and listening to monks pray on the radio.
Six months ago, Nhouk developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him difficulty seeing in low or bright light. He sees halos around bright lights and is unable to drive his motorbike.
When Nhouk learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for seven and a half hours along difficult roads from the most rural province in the country seeking treatment. On January 10th, doctors will perform small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Nhouk shared, “I hope I can see well again soon. I feel poorly sitting at home and unable to help my family. I would like to be more independent, ride my motorbike and visit the local pagoda.”
