Tey is a 50-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married with one son, two daughters, and two grandchildren. Tey enjoys visiting the pagoda to listen to the monks pray and feeding the cows. She traveled 3 hours with her husband to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for treatment.
Tey developed a pterygium (a growth on the lens that spreads to the cornea) in each eye three years ago. This causes her blurred vision, burning, and irritation.
With $148, surgeons at CSC can remove the pterygium from each eye so she can have improved vision and be relieved of tearing, irritation, and itchiness. Let’s help make it possible!

Tey can see clearly again.
Doctors at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), removed the pterygium from Tey’s left eye. Clear vision has been restored. As she recovers, Tey will use eye drops to reduce inflammation and fight infection.
Tey returned home after surgery, and she has not returned for the same treatment in her right eye. Returning to the clinic can be difficult for patients, as it requires them to take time off work and travel with a family escort. Now that vision has been restored to one eye, however, the second surgery is less urgent than the first. Treatment will be free whenever Tey returns.
“I look better and feel comfortable,” says Tey. “I can do anything and go anywhere easily again.”
Tey’s husband, who accompanied her to surgery, adds, “I am very happy that my wife feels comfortable enough to go anywhere on her own. I am thankful to all staff at CSC that helped on her eye surgery.”
