Sarim is a 38-year-old farmer who is married and has two sons. His eldest son is 11 years old and attends 6th grade and his youngest son is one year old. When Sarim is not working on the farm, he washes cars and motorcycles for extra income. In his free time, Sarim enjoys playing chess, exercising, listening to the radio, and taking care of his children.
In April 2019, Sarim was injured when washing a car and fractured his left tibia. He went to a government hospital where doctors fixated hardware to heal the fracture. Now the bone is united, but the remaining nail is causing him pain and he needs crutches to walk.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre can help. On August 10th, Sarim will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. This procedure will remove the hardware and allow him to walk without pain again.
Sarim says, “I hope I can walk easily and return to my job as soon as possible.”

Sarim received life-changing hardware removal surgery.
Sarim successfully underwent his tibial hardware removal surgery. His condition prevented him from being able to work on the family farm. He is relieved that all his aches will finally disappear, and he will no longer need crutches to walk. He’s started working with the physiotherapy team to increase his muscle strength and hopes to return to work soon to support his family and send his children to school.
Sarim said, “thank you to everyone who helps Cambodians like me to have a better life. I will be able to walk better now and make money to take good care of my family.”
