Atuhaire is a nine-month-old baby girl living in Uganda with her mother and sibling.
When Atuhaire was one month old, her mother noticed a swelling near her belly button that grew and became sensitive and painful over time. Doctors diagnosed the swelling as an umbilical hernia and recommended surgery to alleviate the pain. If left untreated, Atuhaire is at risk of hernia strangulation, a life threatening condition in which blood flow is cut off from a portion of the intestine.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Atuhaire’s surgery, which will be performed on June 29. The surgery will alleviate the risk of hernia strangulation and improve her quality of life.
“I am worried and I have no money for the surgery of my child. I hope to continue with farming when my child gets fine,” her mother says.
