Mbabazi is a 13-year-old girl who lives in Uganda with her parents and her six siblings. In school, she enjoys studying English and social studies.
When Mbabazi was two years old, her mother noticed a hard swelling on her daughter’s upper abdomen. Mbabazi would complain of pain, but her parents could not determine its cause. This pain worsened when she was ten years old. As a result, her parents took her to a health center. She was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia, meaning that her intestine had protruded through the abdominal muscles near her stomach.
After numerous failed attempts to receive medical care, Mbabazi and her family were finally advised to come to our medical partner’s care center, where Mbabazi could receive treatment. Due to the pain, Mbabazi has no appetite, and she has been unable to go to school.
Mbabazi is currently scheduled to undergo surgery on April 5 to remove the hernia. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to cover the costs of the procedure.
After surgery, Mbabazi will resume school and focus on her studies in hopes of one day becoming a nurse.
