Mukazitoni is a 42-year-old married mother of ten children from Uganda. Mukazitoni and her husband are farmers; they cultivate food for home consumption and for sale in order to raise money for their children’s school fees. Mukazitoni loves praying and is a member of the mother’s union in the church.
For 11 years, Mukazitoni has had a swelling around a C-section incision from 2006. After surgery her incision did not heal well and six days post-surgery she developed pus. She spent two months in the hospital nursing the wound. After discharge Mukazitoni realized that her incision site was swelling but didn’t take it seriously until it started itching and causing pain.
In 2015 the swelling increased and Mukazitoni had trouble walking. She visited a hospital, where she was diagnosed with an incisional hernia and was advised to have surgery but had no funds to pay for it.
At the suggestion of a friend, Mukazitoni visited our medical partner’s care center, Holy Family Virika Hospital, where an incisional hernia was confirmed. If not treated, Mukazitoni may suffer hernia twisting and blocking, causing intestinal tissue damage.
Fortunately, on October 25, Mukazitoni will undergo a hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund the procedure. After surgery, she hopes to continue farming so she can provide her family with enough food.
