Meet Eleson, a 40-year-old man who lives with his wife and their four children in Malawi. Eleson works as a small scale farmer, and also as a gardener for other families to supplement his family’s income. When Eleson isn’t working, he loves to get together with his friends and watch football.
Earlier this summer, Eleson developed an inguinal hernia—a protrusion of intestinal tissue through a weakened section of his abdominal wall. This painful condition has kept Eleson from working as much as he would like to support his family. Though a hernia is easily repaired, Eleson’s family does not have the funds to pay for this operation.
For $334, surgeons at Watsi’s medical partner, World Altering Medicine, will perform an operation to reposition the protruding segment of Eleson’s intestinal tissue and repair the weakened area of his abdominal wall. After recovery, Eleson will be free of pain.
Eleson is excited to have his procedure so he can get back to work and being with his family happy and pain free. “I wish to be better, so I thank you for this,” Eleson shares.
