“I hope to someday be free from the pain I am currently experiencing,” says Ma Mar, a 40-year-old woman from Thailand. “I want to return to my former way of life.”
Ma Mar used to be employed in a factory, but stopped working when she fell ill. Her daughter—who used to be in the tenth grade at school—now must stay home to take care of Ma Mar.
About five years ago, Ma Mar began to experience swelling and pain in her stomach area. A local doctor performed an ultrasound and diagnosed her with a gallstone. Mar Ma was prescribed medicine, which reduced her symptoms. But one night in August of this year, her health again took a turn for the worse. She felt sudden, sharp pains that caused her to vomit.
Mar Ma was rushed to the hospital and underwent another ultrasound, which revealed that the gallstone is larger than her doctors previously realized. Her care team now needs to perform a CT scan to determine whether the gallstone also contains a tumor.
This test is essential for determining what course of treatment Mar Ma’s doctors should pursue. Although she cannot afford to pay for it on her own, we can foot the bill by raising $414. This sum will cover the cost of her CT scan on August 31, as well as her pre- and post-exam appointments.
“I hope to send my daughter back to school, to finish her education,” adds Mar Ma. Let’s make sure that’s possible by helping Mar Ma get well again.
