Bernard is a calm and friendly nine-month-old baby boy from Kenya living with his mother and father. His mother stays at home to care for him, while his father works as a laborer to support the family.
When Bernard was born, he was diagnosed with clubfoot of his left foot, a condition in which his foot curves inward, so that he is unable to stand on the sole of his foot. Although he began to receive treatment for his clubfoot shortly after birth, he was unable to complete the treatment and his foot continued to worsen. If left untreated, Bernard will have difficulty walking and standing, making it hard for him to attend school or work in the future. Doctors recommended that Bernard undergo corrective surgery on his foot to strengthen his bones and muscles, and help him develop normally.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Bernard’s surgery, which is scheduled for June 11. Bernard’s mother is desperate for him to begin treatment so that he can lead a healthy and productive life.
