Lucy is an 88-year-old woman from central Kenya. She is the mother of nine children. Lucy is approaching age 90, but she is still able to walk around her farm. However, she does struggle due to some vision loss.
Many years ago, Lucy was diagnosed with a cataract, and was originally scheduled to receive cataract surgery in 2014. She was not able to raise the money for the surgery. When she returned to the hospital in September 2017, cataract surgery was once again recommended to restore her vision.
On September 18, Lucy will undergo cataract surgery in her left eye. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, has requested $220 to fund Lucy’s procedure. This will cover the full cost of Lucy’s treatment, including medication, labs, supplies, and surgeon time. After surgery, Lucy hopes to “regain her clear sight and continue doing chores for herself.”
