Sok Hav is a five-year-old boy from Cambodia. He has one older brother and one older sister. Sok Hav shared that he loves to have drinks like Coke and orange juice. He also likes to play with his toy car.
Two years ago, Sok Hav developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him white lens and poor vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Sok Hav learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours by taxi with his parents seeking treatment. On October 13th, doctors will perform lensectomy and place an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sok Hav’s mother shared, “I hope my son can see clearly after his surgery so he can start school and study with his siblings and friends.”

Sok Hav underwent life-changing eye surgery.
Sok Hav had a vitrectomy and lens implant by Watsi’s partner surgeons to repair a hole in his retina. Because of this surgery, he had to lie face down for a few days afterwards in order for it to heal. After a short monitoring period, and a course of antibiotic drops to keep the eyes moist and reduce the chance of infection, he and his family are home and very happy. He is able to see out of his eye, which their family knows will be helpful to him when he starts school/
“I’m feeling very happy that I can see better and do things well,” Sok Hav told us.
