Jemima is a charming 16-year-old girl. She is the youngest of six children, and is currently in school, where her favorite subjects are history, physics, mathematics and Swahili. She hopes that after completing her studies, she can go on to become a teacher. Jemima’s mother grows sorghum on a small scale, while her father fishes at a nearby dam to earn money for the family.
Jemima was born with bilateral clubfoot, and her parents were unable to afford treatment for her condition when she was a child. Because her feet are wrongly positioned, she has never been able to wear closed shoes. She walks to school in sandals, which are also difficult for her to wear. Fortunately, one of Jemima’s teachers - who came from Arusha - told Jemima about how she could obtain the care that she needs.
Jemima and her family traveled six hours to seek help from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, and now she is scheduled for clubfoot repair surgery on December 15th, at Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. Her family needs your help to fund this procedure, which will cost $935 and enable her to wear shoes and to walk without difficulty.
Jemima says: “I wish to wear school shoes like other students at school after my treatment.”
