Kea is a 55-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He is a married father of four, with his two sons being hardworking potato farmers like him. When he is not working, Kea enjoys listening to the news on the radio.
Three years ago, Kea developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him photophobia, itching, and tearing when in the sunlight. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Kea learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours with his wife seeking treatment. On November 18th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Kea said, “Life in the countryside is dependent on farming, so I want my vision to improve so I can continue to do my job.”

He traveled to Watsi’s Medical Partner CSC where doctors performed a cataract extraction surgery and intraocular lens implant. After a short course of eye drops, he is able to see better, and return home to care for his family, plant crops, and watch his favorite Khmer movies again.
His wife looks forward to planting together. Kea said, “I am happy that I can see well, can go to rice field and go places on my own now.”
