Sam Oeun is a 53-year-old motorcycle taxi driver from Cambodia. He has three sons and three daughters. Some of his favorite activities include taking care of his three grandchildren, doing housework, and listening to the radio.
Since 2014, Sam Oeun has suffered from basil cell carcinoma, which has developed on his nose and has increased in size over time. He experiences itchiness, bleeding, and pain each day.
When Sam Oeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for nine and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 20th, surgeons at CSC will perform a local skin flap and tumor procedure to help remove the cancerous cells and allow his skin to heal so he will no longer have any discomfort. Now, he needs help to fund this $657 procedure.
“I hope that after my husband’s surgery, I will no longer have to worry about the cancer spreading and his skin will heal.” -Neang, Sam Oeun’s Wife

Sam Oeun underwent a skin flap and tumor removal.
Sam Oeun’s operation replaced the cancerous tissue with skin from his forehead. However, shortly after the operation, nurses noticed that the replaced tissue was abnormal, and the team had to perform a re-excision on March 4th. The surgical team is awaiting the histology results on the outcome of the second excision, which they hope was successful in removing the cancerous cells. This will greatly improve Sam Oeun’s quality of life and is important in preventing the tumor from spreading.
Sam Oeun’s family is happy about his operation. He is feeling optimistic that his wounds will heal and they no longer will need to worry about cancer spreading.
