Rom is a 50-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia who is married and has two sons, three daughters, and six grandchildren. In her free time, Rom likes to watch comedy TV, feed her cows and chickens, and listen to monks pray at the pagoda.
About one year ago, Rom developed a pterygium, or a growth on the outer eye’s clear tissue, in each of her eyes. Rom’s condition has caused her to experience blurred vision, tearing, irritation, and burning sensations in the affected areas. It is difficult for her to see things clearly, recognize faces, work, and go anywhere by herself.
Rom traveled for three hours to reach our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center (CSC), for treatment. CSC is requesting $201 to cover the cost of eye surgery for Rom. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 26 and, once the pterygium from each eye is removed, will hopefully help Rom to see clearly and live more comfortably.
