LyKorng is a 3-year-old toddler from Cambodia who lives with his family in Phnom Penh province. His mother is a housekeeper, his father is a tailor, and he has one older brother in grade two. LyKorng’s favorite meal is chicken and soup.
LyKorng was born with polydactyly of his right hand, which means that he has an extra thumb. This condition makes it difficult for LyKorng to use his right hand to grasp cups and other objects. Surgery to help LyKorng entails removing the extra thumb and reshaping his hand to create a more natural appearance.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $299 to fund LyKorng’s surgical procedure, which is scheduled for March 17th. After surgery, LyKorgn will hopefully feel more comfortable and the procedure should remove any concerns about functional and/or cosmetic issues with his hand.
LyKorng’s father said: “I hope after the surgery his extra thumb will be gone and he can use his hand like his brother.”
