Juliet is a widowed small-scale farmer who has solely raised all four of her children, with the eldest in her senior year and the youngest having just completed primary school. In addition to farming, she does casual labor work on other people’s farms to supplement her income. A while back, Juliet began to experience troubling symptoms, including neck swelling, shortness of breath and difficulty in swallowing. She is no longer able to actively engage in farming or walk long distances because of palpitations and easy fatiguability. After receiving a thyroid test and scan, she was diagnosed with nontoxic goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Juliet receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on January 24th where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. She and her family need help to raise $252 to fund the procedure and care. Juliet says, “It will surely be a blessing and I will really be blessed having my health restored to normal once given a chance to undergo this surgery under your support.”

Chan is a retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She has two sons, three daughters, and eight grandchildren. Chan's husband passed away twenty years ago, and she lives with her youngest daughter, who works in a garment factory. In her free time, Chan likes to cook for her family and listen to the monks pray on the radio. Since her vision deteriorated, it has been challenging for her to cook. Two years ago, Chan developed a cataract in her left eye, causing light sensitivity, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places alone. When Chan learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On April 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Chan contributed $50 to her care. Chan shared: "After surgery, I hope I can see again. I can see my grandchildren’s faces and care for myself better."

Ly is a 48-year-old rice farmer living with her two sons and two daughters in Kandal province in Cambodia. Ly was widowed six years ago and, ever since their father's death, the oldest two children work as motorcycle and bicycle repairmen to help their mother provide for the family. One year ago, Ly suffered from an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. As a result, Ly experiences ear discharge, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Despite using ear drops, Ly has not seen any improvement in her condition, and now she has also developed polyps. It is difficult for her to hear or communicate with others. Ly traveled to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, hoping to be treated. On May 9th, she will undergo a mastoidectomy on her right ear at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Children's Surgical Centre is requesting $926 to fund this procedure and all of the necessary medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Ly said: "After surgery, I will be able to hear and the ear discharge will stop."
