When Neng’ida was four years old, she was playing with a group of children when she fell down and rolled into a pit.
“As she was sliding towards the pit, Neng’ida tried to hold on to the ground but she kept slipping until she grasped the edge of the pit with her legs hanging inside the pit,” shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “The pit had a heap of dry leaves and other things which were being burnt.”
By the time an adult came and pulled her out, “she had already sustained severe burns and was rushed to the hospital.” Due to the burn scar contracture on her right ankle, Neng’ida is now unable to walk properly.
Neng’ida’s six-member family is entirely involved in agriculture for their livelihood, farming land on a small scale and keeping a few cows and goats. “Their minimal income is not enough to cover the medical care which Neng’ida needs,” explains AMHF.
$550 will fund a contracture release surgery for Neng’ida. “Neng’ida’s gait will improve and she will also have a reduced risk of developing some pain on the distal part of her leg as she continues to grow,” says AMHF.
“I hope to be able to go to school like some of my friends,” adds Neng’ida.
