Chhun Y is a 38-year-old mom of four from Cambodia. She lives with her husband, three sons, and one daughter. While she is at home caring for the children, her husband works at a nearby construction site. She enjoys cooking and shopping in the market with her kids. Around twenty years ago, Chhun Y developed an ear infection that caused her tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. Consequently, Chhun Y experiences pain and ear discharge. She cannot communicate clearly with her children and has spent money on several medications that haven't helped. Chhun Y traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 10th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is requesting $487 to fund this procedure, which covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Chhun Y contributed $100 to her care. She shared, "I hope I can improve my hearing and make my life easier, and my children's lives better."

Song Heng is an 8-year-old student who lives with his parents and three siblings in Kampot province. His father works in construction and his mother is a homemaker. Song Heng is currently in grade two and enjoys going to school with his older siblings. He likes to eat Khmer soup and is learning to read books about Khmer history in school. At home, he plays basketball with his friends and wants to be a policeman when he grows up. For the past two years, Song Heng has been experiencing sore throats and difficulty swallowing. He has had fevers and a sore throat at least four times a year; medication purchased from the local pharmacy has not helped. Frequent illnesses cause him to miss school. In the past two weeks, he has had a bad sore throat and has not able to eat solid food. Song Heng was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. His family is able to contribute $100, and our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Song Heng, which is scheduled to take place on July 25th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Song Heng of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. His mother said, "I hope my son will get better after he has surgery, so he can eat food and grow strong."

Saroeun is a 43-year-old mother of three from Cambodia. She lives in a village with her husband, son, and two daughters. Her husband is a mechanic, and both of her daughters work in a nearby garment factory. Her son is still in school. In her free time, Saroeun enjoys cooking, spending time with her family, and watching Cambodian dramas on TV. About one year ago, Saroeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go places on her own. When Saroeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 10th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund this procedure. Saroeun contributed $75 to her care Saroeun shared, "I hope I can see clearly and start a new job to help support my family."
