Visoth is a five-year-old boy from Cambodia. He has one older sister and one older brother. Visoth’s father is a farmer and his mother works in the home. Visoth is not yet in school and he shared that he likes to play outside with his friends.
Visoth has strabismus in both eyes. Strabismus is a misalignment of the eye caused by injury or dysfunction in the associated nerves and muscles. It is difficult for him to see clearly and he feels bad when other kids call him names because of it.
Visoth’s family traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On November 18th, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to align his eyes. Now, Visoth needs help to raise $314 to fund this procedure.
Visoth’s mother said, “I hope this surgery can help him and he can have healthy eyes like his brother.”

Visoth underwent eye surgery.
Visoth wants to be a policeman when he grows up, but has been feeling discouraged as children have been making fun of him because of his congenital strabismus. He and his family traveled from Takeo province to Watsi’s Medical Partner CSC where doctors performed corrective eye surgery for him. As he heals, his eyes will look normal now, and his family is hopeful that he’ll be able to play and be accepted by the other children. He’s now traveled home with ointment and antibiotics to decrease the risk of infection, and after several weeks of recovery for his eye muscles, he can look forward to improved vision and normal eyes.
His mother shared, “I feel happy when seeing his eye straight and better than before.”
