Chhem is a 68-year-old fisherman. He has two daughters, four sons, and many grandchildren. Chhem lives with his wife and their youngest son who is also a fisherman. At home Chhem likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio.
Four years ago, Chhem developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him photophobia, blurry vision, and tearing. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Chhem learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 23rd, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and will place an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Chhem says, “I want to see clearly after surgery so I can go fishing with my son again and visit the pagoda on my own.”
