Vanna is a 29-year-old woman. She’s single and works in a local restaurant, taking carry-out orders for customers. She enjoys the work because she can practice her English and is learning about different foods.
Her job is also hard for her because since she was 10 years old, she has had frequent ear discharge and fevers. For the past three months, she has lost her hearing in her left ear. She finds that she cannot communicate clearly with other people now, which make it almost impossible to do her job well.
Vanna traveled to our medical partner’s care center hoping to receive treatment. On January 17th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $464 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
She told us she was hoping that surgery would be a big help for her. She said, “I hope to stop having ear infections and improve my hearing so I can do well at work.”

Vanna underwent ear surgery to help her hear and communicate clearly.
Vanna was fortunate to have surgery to repair her eardrum and prevent her condition from worsening. She will return to the hospital in a few months to assess her hearing improvement. Vanna is excited to no longer miss work, and to have better communication with her customers and family as her hearing continues to improve. This treatment will help her work to support her family, and be successful in the future. Good luck, Vanna!
Vanna said: “I am so thankful that I was able to receive this treatment and my hearing will return. My family is thankful to the staff and for the success of my operation. Thank you to everyone who helped me to have this surgery. I feel much better talking to people at my job.”
