Ching is a playful 15-month-old baby girl who lives in Cambodia with her parents and two sisters.
Ching has polydactyly, meaning she was born with an extra thumb on her left hand. Her extra digit makes it difficult for her to hold items. She traveled for two hours with her parents to seek help from our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center (CSC).
Surgeons at CSC can remove Ching’s extra digit. Treatment will cost $258 in total, which includes the cost of the operation, medical supplies, two post-operative follow ups, and physical therapy. After surgery, her dexterity will improve.
“I hope my daughter will be better after her operation,” said her father.

Ching received dexterity-improving polydactyly surgery.
Ching had the extra thumb on her left hand removed during a successful surgery. Doctors excised the thumb before securing the incision site with bandages to ensure safe healing. As Ching’s wound heals, she will be able to hold things more easily as her dexterity improves, and she should go on to live a normal life.
“I am so happy to see my daughter can play and do other things easily,” her mother said. “Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and donors for their help.”
