Meet Samjhana, an eight-year-old girl from Nepal. Samjhana lives with her mother and four brothers.
“Samjhana was playing volleyball with her friends when she tripped and fractured her right forearm,” explains our medical partner, Possible. “She has been in a lot of pain since. She no longer does the activities she was able to before like helping her family with household chores or looking after her siblings.”
Samjhana’s father works as a laborer in Dubai to support his family, but they are not able to afford treatment.
For $224, Samjhana will undergo a closed reduction procedure to align the bones in her forearm, after which he will be placed in a plaster cast. Once the bones heal, the cast will be removed and Samjhana will begin to recover the strength and mobility in her arm. With time, her arm should return to normal.
“Samjhana is very playful, I hope she is more careful after this injury,” says her brother.
