Ankwatsa is a farmer from Uganda and a mother of two.
Several years ago, Ankwatsa started experiencing severe pain and backaches. Her condition caused her much fatigue and affected her daily life, since she was not able to do much cultivation work to support her family. Ankwatsa had been managing the pain with medication and was advised to see a gynecologist. However, due to financial constraints, she was not able to see one at first.
Later, her daughter brought her to Watsi’s Medical Partner Care Center Nyakibale Hospital, where Ankwatsa was diagnosed with multiple uterine fibroids. To treat her condition, she needs to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
However, this procedure is costly for Ankwatsa and her family. Unfortunately, she lost her husband in 2000, and since then has been the only provider for the family. Ankwatsa relies on subsistence farming and sells surplus food to pay school fees for her children, who are in university and secondary school. Ankwatsa is appealing for financial support for her procedure.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Ankwatsa’s surgery. On October 20th, she will undergo a hysterectomy at our medical partner’s care center. Once she recovers, Ankwatsa will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Ankwatsa shared, “Once my surgery goes on well, I hope to have a new life and health, and plan to continue with farming to sustain my family.”
