Abel is a two-month-old baby from Tanzania. He lives with his parents and six siblings in the Maasai community of Namalulu. Abel was born with clubfoot on both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which will make it difficult for Abel to wear shoes or walk. Fortunately, Abel was brought to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. Now he is scheduled to undergo clubfoot repair surgery on March 17th at Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. African Mission Healthcare Foundation is requesting $935 to fund Abel's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily and live a life free from discomfort. Abel’s father says: “It is our hope that Abel gets treatment and has a good life ahead.”

Theavy is a 32-year-old hairstylist. She lives in Kampot province with her older sister. They both work in a nearby hair salon, and they also do make-up for weddings and special events. In her free time, Theavy likes checking her social media and listening to music. In February 2023, Theavy was in a motorbike accident that caused paralysis of her left arm. She has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on her left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spinal cord to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. Theavy is unable to lift her arm, and she has not been able to return to work. Theavy traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On September 7th, she will undergo brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, she is expected to be able to use her arm again. Theavy is able to contribute toward her treatment and our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $709 to fully fund her procedure. Theavy shared, "I hope I can go back to the salon and help my sister and be independent again."

Amon is a 64-year-old man from Kenya. Amon and his wife are both farmers, but Amon has had difficulty working due to his arthritis. They have three children who were unable to attend school due to lack of funding. Amon and his wife also take care of one of their grandchildren. About three weeks ago, Amon started to experience abdominal pain and nausea. Amon sought out treatment at a nearby health center and was treated for ulcers. However, he was advised to seek treatment in a major hospital as he continued to experience pain and also developed jaundice. After arriving at the hospital, a doctor ordered an MRI for Amon. The results showed that Amon had gallstones that cause cholecystitis, a condition where bile becomes trapped and builds up in the gallbladder. The surgeon advised cholecystectomy, but Amon's health insurance card was not functional and he was unable to afford treatment. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On May 29th, Amon will undergo a laparotomy at AMH's care center. Hopefully, after treatment, Amon will no longer experience pain, nausea, and jaundice. AMH is requesting $788 to cover the cost of Amon's procedure.
