Mao is a 68-year-old retired soldier who lives with his wife. Together they have 3 sons, 3 daughters, and 14 grandchildren. He likes to watching and listening to news and sports on TV.
Several years ago, Mao developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him worsening vision. He is unable to recognize colors, and cannot go outside by himself.
When Mao learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On November 25th, doctors will perform small incision cataract surgery and will place an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Mao says, “I hope my eye will get better, I will be able to see and play with my grandchildren more easily.”

Mao underwent sight-restoring cataract surgery.
Mao’s surgery was successful and he can see clearly again. He’ll rest for a few days and apply eye drops as prescribed by the surgeon. He looks forward to being able to go places independently and see his grandchildren’s faces. His life will be better because he will be able to walk with a steady gait, watch TV, and visit his children and grandchildren.
Mao’s wife said: “Mao is so much happier because he can see clearly again. He can go places by himself and see his grandchildren. Thank you to the CSC staff and donors who made this possible for Mao.”
