Marin is an 82-year-old caring grandmother from Cambodia. She has two daughters, two sons, and 15 beautiful grandchildren. She is a retired fish factory worker. She enjoys spending her time with her family and visiting the pagoda.
Five years ago, Marin developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience light sensitivity, eye tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Marin learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On July 11th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Marin says, “I hope after surgery my eye can see well again. I would like to recognize things better and be able to go outside on my own.”

Marin underwent cataract surgery so she can see clearly.
Following the advice of her neighbor, Marin underwent surgery to have her cataract removed. The procedure went well, and Marin was able to rest and apply eye drops to continue her healing. Marin shared that, before surgery, it was difficult for her to live alone with poor vision. She had to spend most of her time indoors due to the risk of stumbling if she went outside. After her surgery, Marin shared that her vision has improved, and she is looking forward to being able to help her family and recognize the faces of her many grandchildren when they come to visit!
Marin’s son said, “I am so grateful to the strangers who paid for my mother to have surgery to improve her eyesight. She can feel more useful to our family, visit with neighbors, and visit our community pagoda without fear that she will fall. Thank you to the hospital staff and donors for helping her.”
