Meet nine-year-old Anil from Nepal. “Anil was playing volleyball with his friends when he tripped and broke his right hand. The area of injury has swollen and been in pain since,” reports our medical partner, Possible. “He needs help doing basic activities like eating and brushing, and has been skipping school too.”
“Anil’s father works as a watchman in India to support his family back home,” explains Possible. “While the income keeps Anil’s family of three going, they still struggle to afford things other than basic needs.” The fracture is an added source of financial stress, and Anil’s family is not able to afford treatment.
With $224 in funding, Anil can receive treatment to correct his fracture with a leg cast. This cost includes hospital admission, cast plaster/removal, physiotherapy, anesthesia, x-rays, follow-up visits, and medication.
“The treatment is expected to correctly align Anil’s bone and allow it to heal properly,” continues Possible. “In about a month, with some physiotherapy exercise, he can do all the activities that he used to.”
Anil’s mother shares, “My son is a keen student. He loves reading Nepali stories.” She hopes he will recover soon, return to school, and continue with his learning.
