Chhanny is a 30-year-old farmer from Cambodia. He has been married for 10 years and has a nine-year-old son who is in 4th grade. Chhanny’s wife is also a farmer and they grow rice and vegetables. Chhanny enjoys exercising, playing games, listening to music on the radio, watching TV, and going for walks.
Two years ago, Chhanny was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture of his right femur. He went to a local hospital where screws were put in his femur. For the year after that operation he experienced pus discharge and pain at the surgery site. Chhanny still cannot walk well and his neighbor told him to try to come to Watsi’s Medical Partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
Fortunately, surgeons at CSC can help. On November 19th, Chhanny will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. The procedure will remove the hardware and a culture will be taken to test for and treat his infection.
Chhanny said, “I hope after the hardware is removed my leg will finally heal and I will not have infection or pain anymore. I want to walk easily again.”

Chhanny underwent a fracture surgery so he can walk easily again.
Chhanny’s hip had developed a sinus (a narrow opening extending from a wound underneath the skin with abscess formation) from his surgery at another hospital. He traveled to Watsi’s Medical Partner CSC where surgeons removed the plate and screws placed in his hip 2 years ago. They cleaned his wound, and determined that he had a staph infection, for which he received antibiotics. His stitches were removed two weeks later. He will need to continue to walk on crutches until his wound heals and he regains strength. Chhanny is relieved that his wound will finally heal and he will be able to return to work to support his young family.
“I hope I will get strength and movement back, and I will be able to return to work,” Chhanny shared with us.
