Nkunda is a 50-year-old woman from Uganda who works as a small-scale farmer with her husband. She’s been experiencing a swollen neck for over 15 years. If left untreated, she may experience persistent pain, as well as difficulty in breathing and swallowing.
Nkunda says that she has never visited the hospital for treatment because she does not have money for it. She has always gone to herbalists because they are affordable, but no improvement has been noticed. While Nkunda was conversing with her friend, she learned about Watsi and visited one of our medical partner facilities for help. There, she was diagnosed with a goiter, an enlarged thyroid.
On November 2, Nkunda will undergo a subtotal thyroidectomy, the removal of part of the thyroid. To help fund the treatment, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $240.
Nkunda says, “I will continue with farming after surgery, and I hope to have improved quality of living.”
