Ibido is a 15-year-old student from Kenya. During his first year of high school, his mother noticed that he was squinting his eyes unusually. Over time, his school performance began to decline, and it soon became clear something was wrong.
His family went to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, for an evaluation. A brain scan found that Ibido has a brain tumor and hydrocephalus, a condition that causes an excess of fluid to build up in the skull, causing increased intracranial pressure. If Ibido does not receive treatment, he may be facing permanent brain damage and possibly death. Already the condition has impaired his vision.
On May 11, Ibido will undergo brain surgery to drain the fluids in his skull, and a biopsy of the tumor to determine if the tumor is malignant or benign. His family is requesting $685 to cover the total cost of the procedure.
“It is God who gives and it is Him who takes away. All I wish for Ibido is that he gets well and lives the life he ought to,” says Ibido’s mother.
