This smiling woman is Esther, a 68-year-old mother of two from Kenya. For almost two years, Esther has had a cataract in her right eye. This makes it impossible for Esther to see out of this eye, and will cause permanent blindness if not treated. Her husband and children work to support their family, but are not consistently employed.
Fortunately, our medical partner in Kenya, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) can remove Esther’s cataract for $230. “We expect that after the surgery, Esther will be able to see well again,” says AMHF.

Esther was unable to receive treatment due to hypertension.
“Esther’s surgery was postponed after her pressure was found to be too high,” says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. “She was put on medication and reviewed a few weeks later. Her pressure was still high.”
Once Esther is able to have surgery, AMHF will re-submit her for funding on Watsi.
