“I want to regain my sight so that I can continue doing my household chores,” says Teresiah, a 72-year-old woman from Kenya.
Teresiah was a farmer for most of her life until she suffered a fracture in a road accident about four years ago. Since then, she has been under the care of her four grown children, who provide for her daily and medical needs.
Despite this readily available help, Teresiah loves doing domestic chores by herself, and prefers not bother her children with them. Lately, though, she has been unable to complete even these basic household tasks. This is because her left eye’s vision has been gradually getting worse over the past four years.
Teresiah was diagnosed with a cataract, or clouded eye lens, and was told that if she does not receive treatment soon, she risks going completely blind in her left eye. Although there is a well-established surgical remedy for cataracts, Teresiah’s children have been spending their money on medical treatment for her fracture, and do not have adequate funds to pay for her cataract surgery on top of that.
For $220, however, we can fully sponsor the cataract removal operation that Teresiah needs. This sum will cover not only her surgery on October 2, but also her medications and overnight stay in the hospital.
Sometimes the simplest pleasures in life are the ones that bring us the most joy. Let’s help Teresiah return soon to her beloved daily chores.
