Stadia and her husband are farmers in their village. She had one son who died following a fire accident when he was still young. However, she is now a stepmother to three other sons. To earn a living and supplement the income from the farm, Stadia and her husband prepare local beer. However, their income is still limited.
Ten years ago, Stadia began to experience troubling symptoms, including anterior neck swelling and later began having shortness of breath and swallowing problem. She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She visited Nyakibale hospital hoping to receive subsidized surgery as her visits to other hospitals have not been successful due to cost that is out of reach for her.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Stadia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on November 2nd at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money.
Stadia says “I hope to get better after surgery and I believe with your support all will be possible.”
