Boromey is a 23-year-old construction worker from Cambodia who lives with his parents and one younger brother in Banteay Mean Chey province. His father is a teacher in the village and his mother sells vegetables at the market. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer with friends in the local field.
Four years ago, Boromey was in a motorcycle accident, resulting in an injury to his left shoulder. This injury has caused muscle tightness, which affects his ability to bend his elbow and move his fingers. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is currently unable to move his left arm, and he cannot work.
Boromey traveled to Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On May 10th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to use his left arm again. Boromey and his family are able to contribute $100 for his treatment but our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, needs $609 more to fund this procedure.
Boromey said, “I hope to move my left arm easily again. I hope to pursue my dream of becoming a policeman one day.”
