Sophors is a 15-year-old ninth grade student from Cambodia. She has one brother and one sister, and is the second child in her family. She enjoys reading stories and listening to Khmer pop and classical music.
Sophors was born with congenital strabismus in both eyes, a condition that causes an improper realignment of her eyes. She feels shy when she goes to school.
For $246, Sophors will undergo a squint correction procedure to realign her eyes and help her see clearly.
Sophors says, “I hope my eye looks good with a straight eye like normal people so that I feel good and not shy with my friends at home and school and also not be shy with anyone when I go outside. In the future, I want to be in the army.”

Sophors successfully received eye surgery to see more clearly.
Since she was born, Sophors has had an eye squint, causing her blurred vision and to feel very shy.
Today, Sophors’s treatment on both eyes went well! She was given eye drops to reduce inflammation, and she’s now on her way to a full recovery. Sophors is back at home now and healing, and with some time, is expected to have see great improvement in her vision.
“I feel very happy that my eyes look better like normal people,” Sophors shares. “I feel good about myself and not shy around my friends at home and at school. In the future, I want to be in the army.”
