Joyce is an 11-year-old girl from Tanzania. She is the oldest of five children. Her parents are small-scale farmers, and they work hard to educate their children. Joyce is studying in fourth grade.
Joyce was experiencing repeated throat infections. For this reason, she had difficulty eating and sleeping. Joyce’s father sought treatment for his daughter at many different hospitals and clinics, but he found little success. When he visited our medical partner’s care center, The Plaster House, he was thrilled to learn his daughter could receive treatment.
Joyce was diagnosed with enlarged tonsils. On December 22, she underwent a tonsilectomy to remove her tonsils. This treatment should alleviate all of her symptoms. Now, our medical partner is requesting $545 to fund this procedure.
“I am so happy that you can help my daughter with this surgery,” says Joyce’s father. “I will work hard to make sure that she can continue at school.”
