Sao is a 17-year-old boy from Cambodia, one of five boys in his large family. According to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center (CSC), Sao works as a farmer and helps his mother with work around the house. Like many other young boys his age, Sao also, “Enjoys listening to pop songs and playing around his home.”
Unfortunately, six years ago, Sao sustained a severe ankle injury during a bicycle incident. Since then, CSC states, “This pain became unbearable and he has been unable to walk.” After seeing a local physician, Sao has been diagnosed with right ankle arthritis and he now requires a joint arthrodesis surgery to repair his ankle.
With $392 in funding, Sao can receive the joint fusion surgery he requires. Sao will undergo a surgical procedure including a bone graft, medication, and hospital respite. Over time, CSC states that Sao’s body will heal the fused bones in his ankle, and, “He will be able to walk properly again without pain.”
Sao’s father shares, “I hope my son can walk normally after he is healed.” With your help, Sao can return to health.
