Domitira is a pregnant 16-year-old girl from Uganda who loves to watch netball, a sport similar to basketball. During her free time at home, she also enjoys listening to radio programs and likes to visit friends and relatives.
Our medical partner, The Kellerman Foundation, runs a program that sends village health teams to local clinics in order to educate expecting mothers about hospital births. When their team met Domitira and her family, they encouraged her to visit their care center at Bwindi Community Hospital for medical care and prenatal support.
Because she is young, Domitira’s doctors consider her pregnancy to be high-risk. They recommend that she receive medical attention before, during, and after labor to ensure a safe delivery. On December 7, she will begin to receive supplements and attend antenatal checkups and health education classes. She will deliver her baby in the hospital, and she will undergo a C-section if necessary. After birth, Domitira and her baby will be monitored by the hospital staff.
After her pregnancy, Domitira plans to return to school. She is very thankful for her donors.
“I wish I could get to see the people that are helping us to have such services and safe deliveries,” says Domitira. “I would dance and sing for them a thank you song.”
