Nhor is a 60-year-old retired rice farmer from Prey Veng province in Cambodia. She is married and has one son, two daughters, and seven grandchildren. She lives with her husband and youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. She stays indoors most of the day, caring for her youngest grandchildren, or listening to the monks pray on the radio. When the family is home, they like to watch movies together. About two years ago, Nhor developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Because she has difficulty seeing things clearly, Nhor can no longer enjoy watching movies with her family as she used to do, and she is reluctant to go outside on her own. On April 24th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After she has recovered, Nhor will regain her independence and the enjoyment of watching films with her family. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and Nhor need your help to fund this $253 procedure. Nhor said: "I hope I can see better so that I will be able to plant some vegetables around my house for sale."

Jackline is a 17-year-old student from Machakos County in Kenya. She is in form three at AIC Kunikela High School and aspires to become a doctor in the future. Both of her parents are farmers. When she was one year old, Jackline was burned on her left elbow by hot water. After the burn healed, she developed a contracture of her elbow, preventing her from using her arm to help her mother around the house or play volleyball, her favorite sport. While she has been to different hospitals, the contracture remains, negatively impacting her self-esteem. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is here to help. On May 8th, surgeons at AIC Cure International Hospital will perform burn contracture release surgery, enabling Jackline to use her arm and hand more easily. Jackline and her family need your help to fund this $840 procedure. “My joy would be to use my hand like other people, and any help to correct this will be highly appreciated,” Jackline told us.

Negash, who is five years old, is the youngest of the six children in his family. Their family lives in rural Ethiopia, where his parents are farmers who grow wheat and barley. Additionally, they work as daily laborers on government construction projects to earn extra money to support their family. A few years ago, Negash's parents learned that he had been born with hypospadias, a congenital condition that causes urinary dysfunction. The doctors at the hospital in Sekota told the family that Negash would need to return for treatment when he turned four years old. As the hospital in Sekota could not perform the procedure required to address Negash's condition, a social worker accompanied the family to Addis Ababa, helping to cover all of their travel costs. However, the family needs money to pay for the surgery that Negash must have in order to prevent him from higher risk of cancer and infertility, and other worrying symptoms in the future. Fortunately, Negash is now scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on March 30th at BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Negash's father said: “I want my son to be completely well. I hope he will be well educated and become a president.”
