SokPov is a 39-year-old farmer from Kampong Cham Province in Cambodia. He is married and has 3 children. SokPov and his wife seller their harvest in the local market. For 10 years, SokPov has had paralysis in his left hand due to high blood pressure.
When he was seventeen, SokPov had a severe ear infection and it was left untreated. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in both of his ears to perforate. For this reason, SokPov experiences ear discharge and chronic infections, often 3-4 times a year. He has hearing loss and has purchased a hearing aid to aid in hearing. SokPov has difficulty communicating with people due to this condition.
SokPov traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On August 31st, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in both ears. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforations. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $913 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
SokPov said, “I hope that surgery will improve my hearing so I can work and communicate with people again.”
